The Swiss Boxing Federation will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2013 by staging an international elite tournament at the end of September in the city of Horgen. The flagship celebratory competition will gather men and women boxers from four countries for an unprecedented boxing event: the Swiss Boxing Nations' Cup.

"This top-class anniversary competition is a perfect opportunity to showcase our exciting sport throughout Switzerland, and to generate interest in the noble art and further develop participation in boxing in the country", said Swiss Boxing Federation President, Mr. Andreas Anderegg, a three-time national champion in the 80's.

Several high-profile Swiss boxers will be amongst the elite athletes present at the forthcoming tournament, including Davide Faraci, AIBA European Olympic Qualifying Event Trabzon 2012 bronze medallist, who was just one win away from qualifying for the London Games.

Other elite boxers set to be in action are up-and-coming Middleweight (75kg) Amir Orfia, Bantamweight (56kg) Drin Sadriu , Durim Sadrija at Lightweight (60kg) and current Welterweight (69kg) national champion Riccardo Silva Ramos.

The best of women's boxing will also be on display, reflecting the steady and continuous growth of the sport in the last decade. European Women Championships' silver medallist Sandra Bruegger, will face the new wave of local talent coming through. Viviane Obenauf, Anais Kistler and Ornella Domini, as well as the talented 18-year-old Welterweight Nina Jeanrenaud - all eager to follow the footsteps of national star Sandra Bruegger - will certainly use this unique chance to show their best. With such a promising line-up in store, the Swiss Boxing Federation will be able to demonstrate the strength and bright future of the nation's fledgling stars.

Founded in 1913, the Swiss Boxing Federation is nowadays one of the oldest national federations in Europe. It was in the very same year, that the first national competitions were introduced, consecrating winners in eight weight categories. Since then, the Swiss Boxing Federation has constantly strived to further promote boxing and implement a new strategic plan to ensure the desired participation at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
